The author's monumental novel of Russia, offered in a conventionally-sized (but thick) Modern Library copy. Translated from the Russian by Constance Garnett and with an introduction by Marc Slonim. Includes b&w drawings at Parts by unattributed artist. --- In Toledano spine 8 w/full grey cloth covers, gilt titling stamped on green blocks, cover & spine, faded green topstain and grey Kent endpapers. Volume bears 1950 date but likely published c.1956. Jacket style i, verso advertises 377 titles in ML catalog. ML #151.2. --- With prior owner's signature and info. to verso of front free endpaper, otherwise a clean and firm copy lacking other markings or obvious damages.
