Descripción

"BREAKING FREE invites readers to engage in knowledge-making processes which are central to participatory action research {PAR}. This is done by awakening the liberatory adult education tradition of people's on-going struggle to be heard. People's narratives tell of their struggles. Highlighted in the book are papers from students in the Faculty of Social Work at the University of Calgary. Narratives and papers are organized as meaningful contributions to liberatory traditions, in particular to the democratizing values of PAR. A web of connections is crafted from Eduard Lindeman in the early 1920s through Paulo Freiure in the 1960s and Vandana Shiva in the 1980s to social justice advocates in the twenty-first century. By inviting readers to gather their own stories of social justice work into a similar guide, the result is a celebration of activist testimonials." This book has 337 pages and is illustrated. The text contains NO internal marks whatsoever. Overall, this is a FINE copy of this VERY SCARCE title. N° de ref. de la librería 062577

Acerca de

Sinopsis:

Breaking Free is a practical guide to facilitating self-directing educational processes into participatory action research (PAR) enabling average people to contribute what they can as active participants in research projects. As such, it is designed primarily for these participants rather than the academic researcher in order to introduce participants to authentic contributions they can make as activists in knowledge-making processes. At the same time, Breaking Free guides academic researchers towards helpful practices enriching their often times lonely and isolated existence created by a false sense of "objectivity." A hands-on practical yet disciplined approach to facilitating PAR prepares readers to craft their own individual Guide as they prepare for the PAR life. This opens up the world of knowledge-making to people long silenced by forces intent on controlling knowledge for the educated elite. Breaking Free invites people to contribute as they can and be recognized for this contribution.
