Minor age toming to margins of pages, some small institutioal handstamp markings, else Very Good in 1/4 red cloth and marbled paper-over-boards (hardcover). NOTES: 1. þáttur. Haraldur. Subjects: Icelandic Canadian literature (author was Icelandic-Canadian); Íslenskar bókmenntir; Skáldsögur ; Vestur-Íslendingar. Add.Title Brasilíufararnir. The author was "one of those few Western Icelandic writers who gained popularity on both sides of the Atlantic" (Neijmann, The Icelandic Voice, , p. 146). He emigrated from Iceland to Nova Scotia at age nine. He became a schoolteacher in western Canada in 1889; after his retirement, he lived at Elfros, Saskatchewan (Kirkconnell, Canadian overtones). His social criticisms were based on the immigrant experience, according to Neijmann. She states also that, "the more important aspect of [the author's] fictional tales . . . is that he creates a folklore, a body of legends for the West Icelanders . . .".
