Descripción:

**RARE**NOT EX-LIBRARY**352 pages with engraved illustrated title page under tissue guard. The third in a series of at least four separate and different volumes of works from Boston writers and poets. Others appeared in 1835, 1837, and 1850. This particular edition from 1841 is especially scarce and contains the first appearance in print anywhere of Hawthorne's "Howe's Masquerade". Contains 57 separate essays, stories, and poems from the most notable writers of the day. In the original black cloth-covered boards, vertically ribbed, decorated in blind, with obelisk in gilt pictured on front and rear, gilt-lettered spine. Exterior boards lightly, occasionally stained and soiled, with tearing to the cloth along the spine edges and at the spine ends. Great balance of the cloth binding remains intact and unworn, all gilt lettering and graphics intact and legible. Gutter torn and exposed to binding at the first title page, but the hinges remain sound and the boards are well-attached. Text-block intact and unbroken and is still snugged firmly to the backstrip, no pages loose or missing, book remains square and straight. The corners are lightly worn but are unbumped. Internally, book is very clean, pages unsoiled, with only faint age-toning and a rare spot of foxing scattered about. All text is crisp and sharp, very legible. There is no writing, underlining, highlighting or markings of any such kind in the book. Previous owner's pre-printed, book-themed bookplate on blank front pastedown. Perhaps not cosmetically pretty from the exterior, but nonetheless a clean, still sound, complete and intact copy of a rare book. N° de ref. de la librería
