Eighth Edition (also given as 8th Thousand on the title page). No date but c.1880. A delightful book with 4 full page chromolithographic plates showing colour illustrations of ices made in the shapes of everything from Swans and Pineapples to Cabbages and Fish. Plenty of black and white illustration as well and some great period advertising. This copy has some water staining to the boards, more to the rear than the front. Size: Small Octavo. Blue cloth lettered in gilt and ruled in black on the upper cover. A near fine copy, clean and bright. Ten pages of black and white illustrations for ice moulds at the rear. Mrs Agnes Bertha Marshall (1855-1905) was a culinary entrepreneur who was dubbed the "Queen of Ices" for her recipes for ice cream and other frozen deserts, and is generally credited with inventing the first portable, edible ice cream cones (which she called "cornets").
