"Fifth edition, revised and further enlarged". Xviii, [ii], 511 pages. Red cloth covers with gilt lettering and illustration on spine and front board. Top page edges gilt. Dimensions: 6 7/8" by 4 5/8". Spine faded. Some rubbing to edges of spine and boards. Provenance: Bookplates on front endpaper of Pat Lawlor and Robert Hughes. Pat Lawlor mentions this copy in his own book "Books and Bookmen" - "There are many editions of The Enchiridion. They grew in size and in content as edition followed edition. [. . .] The popularity of the book tempted Ireland to disclose his name, to add to the subject matter and to increase the size so that my second copy (1888) proclaims that it is the fifth edition 'revised and further enlarged'. [.] Although fond of the neat copy of the fifth edition with its brownish red cloth and gold embellishments I longed for a copy of the rare large paper issue.
