This 228 page revelation, This is the !st edition so stated on the verso of the title page, as are all 1sts of this title, the reprints lack that designation, wear and some small chips to the otherwise good plus dust jacket. This title is a key item in the African American Canon, being an autobiography of Richard Wright. being an increasingly well respected and energetically applauded offering it is proudly presented with great and well deserved hubris by Hirschfeld Galleries in both the publishers original binding. The binding is the publisher's blue cloth, with gilt decoration to the spine, gilt lettering on a red spine panel, and the publisher's device stamped in pink on the front board. A solid, wonderful copy of the author's own account of growing up as an African-American boy, covering his life through young adulthood. From the front flap description: "What kind of America, the reader may well ask, are we building for ourselves when such things as are set forth in this book can be? And when we take them so much for granted that we are hardly even aware of their existence until a talented and honest writer like Richard Wright makes us see them with fresh eyes and understand them for the first time?" As Hamilton Basso once wrote of Wright's autobiography in The New Yorker, "It comes out of life, it is a part of life, and it lets a light into places that have not seen this kind of light before."The bestselling book by any African-American author up until that time. Make it your time now to be enlightened. But enough of the lugubrious however allegorically wise jaw-jacking, enough said of the telluric parameters of select Hirschfeld Galleries' offerings such as this one which take on a life of their own and speak so very loudly for themselves. Read to learn and enjoy; go forth to share and enjoin. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. N° de ref. de la librería 008813
