3 vols., sm. 8vo., Second Impression thus, with 3 coloured frontispieces, 520 coloured illustrations of birds and eggs by Thorburn, 207 monochrome photographs by Kearton, Turner and others, and pictorial endpapers, small neat contemporary signature on front free endpapers; original series binding of tan faux-morocco cloth, upper boards blocked and lettered in gilt and black, gilt backs, red sprinkled edges, radial corners, a near fine set in unclipped dustwrapper. The set comprises Series I: Families Corvidae to Phoenicopteridae; Series II: Families Anatidae to Phasianidae; Series III: Migration and Habits; Observations on our Rarer Visitants. The seventh edition, first published earlier in the same year, is the first appearance of Boyd's mighty revision of this classic work and properly includes the fourth edition of Series III (first published in 1926). 'Coward's great work is a birding classic, full of personal observation and accurate in its details. The author was ahead of his time in his strong interest in bird behaviour. It remains far more readable and interesting than most modern guides' (Marren). A lovely set, and uncommon in this condition. See Marren p.150-154. N° de ref. de la librería 26020
