Newspaper article (The Bronxville Review) laid in, regarding a talk Murphy gave about his travels, mentions inscribee Lucian Kirtland, who chaired the meeting at which Murphy spoke. A conservationist, authority on sea birds and assistant director at the American Museum of Natural History, Murphy wrote this book based on his 1919-1920 scientific expedition to the west coast of Peru. It was called "one of the most important contributions to the natural history of South America," in a review by Witmer Stone, editor of "The Auk: Ornithological Advances.".
