Acerca de

These stories by Domingos Monteiro, a Portuguese writer, deal with the intricacies of human relationships, both in Spain and in Portugal. The stories are: The Most Beautiful Woman in Spain, A Tale to the Contentment of All, The Hungarian Teacher, Sleep, Purity, The Day of Reckoning, and Revenge.

About the Author:

Domingos Monteiro was born in 1902 in Trás-os-Montes, in the north of Portugal, and died in 1980. He graduated in Law at the University of Lisbon. He is the author of several volumes of essays on cultural and political topics and of a few volumes of poetry. However he owes his success as a writer mostly to his work in prose fiction. He published his first two collections of short stories in 1943 and 1945 and his last book, a collection of sonnets, was published in 1978. Some of his stories have been translated into Spanish, Italian, Russian, Catalan, French, German, Czech and English. He has been connected with the writers of “Presença”, a literary movement that together with “Neo-Realismo” played a significant role in the Portuguese literary scene of the XXth century.
