Descripción:

THE BOOSTER September 1937 - Easter 1939. SIGNED and INSCRIBED by HENRY MILLER on the title-page: "For Pierre / from / Henry Miller / 6-9=72". Reprints of the avant-garde BOOSTER MAGAZINE and later DELTA LITERARY REVIEW that were printed from September 1937 through Easter 1939, in Paris, France, with text that was primarily English. Alfred Perles was the Managing Editor; Lawrence Durrell, Henry Miller, and William Saroyan were the Literary Editors. Published / Reprinted by Johnson Reprint Company, New York and London, 1968. "Reprinted with the permission of Alfred Perles". First thus edition (First Compiled and Bound Edition). Hardcover book, no dustjacket brown cloth covered boards titled in gilt on the front cover and spine, 6" x 9", approximately 250 total pages. VERY GOOD condition, the covers are lightly bumped at their corner tips, otherwise tight, bright, clean and unmarked. A solid, very nice copy. The story of The Booster is a great one. Originally the in-house organ of a golf club based near Paris, the unsuspecting members were initially delighted to have three more or less established writers take over its editorship. Early issues retain many of the adverts for waterproof clothing etc. However the three avant-garde writers and poets turn the issue away from golf and towards modern literature. Eventually the golf-club members retook control of their "Booster" magazine, forcing Perles, Durrell and Miller to release the final three issues under a different name, i.e. DELTA. A Rare Look at a Very Influential Literary Magazine. SCARCE with the SIGNATURE and INSCRIPTION of HENRY MILLER. NOTE: Pierre Sicari was a long-time friend of Henry Miller, and was his barber too! Pierre Sicari was also an avid, if not rabid, collector of Henry Miller's books and ephemera. Henry Miller signed and inscribed many items to Pierre (and some to his wife, Susie) for his collection, over many years. Pierre Sicari died in 2009. N° de ref. de la librería
