Descripción ReInk Books, 2017. Softcover. Condición: NEW. Reprinted from edition. NO changes have been made to the original text. This is NOT a retyped or an ocr'd reprint. Illustrations, Index, if any, are included in black and white. Each page is checked manually before printing. As this reprint is from very old book, there could be some missing or flawed pages, but we always try to make the book as complete as possible. Fold-outs, if any, are not part of the book. If the original book was published in multiple volumes then this reprint is of only one volume, not the whole set. This paperback book is SEWN, where the book block is actually sewn (smythe sewn/section sewn) with thread before binding which results in a more durable type of paperback binding. It can also be open wide. The pages will not fall out and will be around for a lot longer than normal paperbacks. This print on demand book is printed on high quality acid-free paper. Includes a fold-out map of Jamaica with a color legend. With foreword and index. Volume is in overall very good condition with mild wear from rubbing and fading on covers and toning inside. Spine features text in gilt and ex-library mark in white, and has softened and frayed ends. Binding is secure with minimal play. Front pastedown and fep feature ex-library bookplate, as well as discarded stamp in blue ink on front fep and back pastedown, and an embossed stamp on title page. Fold-out map is intact. Back pastedown displays evidence of a torn library pocket on lower corner. Interior is gently age-toned and well-preserved with occasional foxing. Some pages display pencil marks and writing. Textblock edges exhibit expected toning and some scuffs mostly along head and fore edge. Book may exhibit additional minor signs of age or wear. A passionate, fascinating study of the folk culture of the Jamaican people. Tackling all aspects of the matter from the family life to folk art, detailing the geography of the land, the activities of fishing, trapping and stock-raising, special ceremonies such as the burial of the dead, and the world of the spirits, this is a profound exploration into the heart of a people the likes of which will rarely be found among the literature on the subject. Illustrated with black & white photographs, including many historical details, delving deep into the religious beliefs which make the Jamaican culture as it is, the volume will take the reader on a journey of discovery not only of a place of the world, but the fascinating universe of its people. 243 pages. 5.75 x 8.5 inches.
