23 pages, including sketch illustrations. Plus 2 full-page colour maps and back and white photographic plates. Original condition with blue wrappers, titles to front, and containing all the ads. This is a complete issue, seldom found in such good and original condition. In 1933, funded in part by the Royal Geographical Society, Mr. Thesiger and his companion, Mr. Haig-Thomas, set out to explore the course of the Awash River and Aussa Sultanate, but unfortunately after three months with the expedition, his companion got severe laryngitis and had to be sent home. Thesiger continued his exploration in the little-known and dangerous parts of Abyssinia alone. He overcame many difficulties and risked much, becoming the first European to return alive from the treacherous lands of the Danakil people and to visit Lake Abbe. Apart from a thorough exploration of the river, Thesiger collected 880 specimens of birds, and provided a vivid description of the natives inhabiting the country, mainly the hostile Danakil tribe (also called Asaeimara), including their savagery and raids, circumcisions, marriage proposal, and much more. A fascinating and detailed account of Thesiger's adventurous and successful expedition in the well-known and dangerous regions of Abyssinia, among the crocodiles and the savage tribe of Danakil, exploring the course of the Awash River. A most absorbing account illustrated with two beautiful colour maps and photographic plates. N° de ref. de la librería 024487
