Descripción:

Seventh impression of the French edition. 8vo., contemporary red cloth. Librairie Gallimard, Paris. Inscribed by the author, ?A mon ami Antonini - ces memoirs authentiques de D-503. Eug. Zamiatine. 2-III-1935. Paris? This classic of dystopian science fiction is often cited as a major influence on Huxley's Brave New World and Orwell's 1984. Zamyatin was an anti Soviet Russian, and the smuggled text was first published in English translation in New York, in Czech in Prague, and thus in France. He was given permission by Stalin (at Gorky's urging) to leave Russia in 1931, and lived principally in Paris. The French edition was the first to be readily available, and was the form in which Orwell and Huxley came across it. The first English edition didn't appear until 1967. D-503 is the name of the narrator: Antonini might be the Italian intellectual Giacomo Antonini. An excellent copy, spine faded, pages lightly browned. N° de ref. de la librería
