Descripción

Fellow of the Royal Zoological Society (1900-68); fascist; writer of thrillers; intelligence officer for MI5 who recruited Ian Fleming, Tom Driberg and Anthony Blunt; jazz drummer; friend of Aleister Crowley; said to have been the individual on whom the M of the James Bond books is based. The forwarded letter is signed 'Angus' and is on letterhead Old Rectory Ashton Northampton. All five items are in good condition, all of one page, the letters 8vo and the cards 16mo. Knight's handwriting is difficult. In the first letter he admits to being 'taken by surprise' and gives a list of others who were as well. 'Edmunds, however, says it was mentioned or put forward in Council. I cant recollect it & wonder if it is in the minutes!' In the first card, which is addressed with a printed stamp and postmark, he invites Epps to 'join the party for Eastbourne' if his term finishes before 5 July. In the typed letter he thanks Epps for his note 'enclosing galley proof of my conntribution. | I have read it without spotting any errors, and it appears to be O.K. for press'. The second card reads 'Am I going crackers or what? What did I do? I didnt leave any other book to sign that day. Did I merely sign it with no message - I thought I had written in it properly. It seems that I am a copy. Please accept my profound apologies. | Max'. The forwarded letter, written in red ink and addressed to 'Max', requests Epps's address in order to send him proofs. Beneath it Knight has written 'Dear Epps. | Without comment / | Yrs ever | Max'. 5 items, N° de ref. de la librería 2540
