4pp., 12mo. Bifolium. Fair, on aged paper, with thin strip from stub adhering to reverse of second leaf. Lawrence informs Allnutt that he has been to the British Institution, 'yet tho' at an early undisturb'd hour', he was 'unable to fix on any one Picture amongst many of nearly the same merit'. His advice is: 'You must yourself choose.' He finds 'some small Works by Mr. Childe' good, but 'can't determine to add to my own Collection (if I may use so fine a word) or I agree with you that I ought to purchase Mr. Hartstones, which is an admirable head!' He is enclosing a paper (not present) with unimportant matter, and he asks Allnutt and his wife to 'keep it as a record of my opinions on two or three subjects in art, and as conveying my own genuine thoughts & Feelings, on Characters that preceded me in the Chair! / The Picture that gain'd the Prize was by Mr: Hartstone, who has now still more justified the Academys decision'. He invites Allnutt to call on him in Russell Square, and asks him to bring, 'if Mrs Allnutt can oblige me with the loan of it, a light (the lightest) blonde Ruff for the Neck. I want it for the Portrait of a Lady of her Acquaintance. [her daughter Jane?]'. N° de ref. de la librería 11673
