Descripción

4to bifolium: 4 pages. Closely written. Very good, on aged paper. Address on the reverse of the second leaf, which carries two postmarks and a strong impression of his red wax seal. Wolff's letter to Combes covers the whole of the recto of the second leaf. His father-in-law Edward Weston having died eight years before, he desires 'the Business touching Mr Westons Legacy to my Children to be finally concluded on'. The 'parties concerned are so much within reach of each other (Mrs Weston being safely arrived here last Wednesday night)', and he is sending 'anexed [sic], what my Brother Weston said, in Answer to what I had writ him after your last Advice; & also what Mrs Weston says on the Subject'. He concludes by discussing the effect of the weather on the local farmers, beginning 'We have had much too long a drought this Summer for this Hilly Country'. He asks Combe to find him 'a good Tenant out of Bedfordshire' for either of 'a £100 & a £50 farm to let at Chumleigh'. Wolff's transcription of Charles Weston's letter to him ('Therfield 2 Octr. 1778') covers the recto of the first leaf. It discusses the legal position regarding 'the Legacy to our Children'. The reverse of the first leaf carries an extract 'touching late Mr Weston's Legacy, copied from Mrs. Weston's Letter dated Somerby 18 Septr. 1778'. N° de ref. de la librería 7809
