This American novelist, poet and writer won the Pulitzer Prize at age 24 in 1935 for her first novel, "Now in November," and while she won the O. Henry Award five times for short stories and published additional novels, short story collections and books of verse, she will always be remembered for her first work. ALS, 2pp (lettersheet), 5" X 7 3/4", n.p., n.y. Addressed to Arnold F. Gates (1914-93, noted Lincoln and Civil War scholar). Fine. Thanks this Cleveland native for some offer: ".I am out of Cleveland for the moment & cant take advantage of your introduction and offer. I am with my family for a visit before going to the Iowa University summer session to read manuscripts. I'm glad you liked Now in November -- but hope someday to write a much better book." Interesting wistful attitude! Undated, but likely late 1940s. N° de ref. de la librería 40718
