This early Cram map appears early in the mapmakers career, who was one of the first American map makers to start using Lithographic Coloring techniques. Lithographic color made for detailed and accurate coloring of maps. Unpaginated, sixteen pages, complete. Sixteen color maps, complete. Additional text printed on insides of covers lists statistical data, namely, the number of military resources by country. Former owner's purple stamp on back cover. Pages are very clean and intact except for slight age toning and wrinkling and minimal wear to corners and edges. Covers are very clean and intact except for a few almost imperceptible dampstains on front, a small chip in lower-right corner on front, slight rubbing, and light to moderate wrinkling. Binding is tight. A Very Good copy. A concise atlas comprising sixteen world maps and maps of different countries during the nascent years of World War I. Maps include neatlines, lines of latitude and longitude, keys and legends (where applicable), cities, political boundaries, and natural features. Colors vary by map; for example, some maps feature only pink, black, and white while others include the whole spectrum of red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple, pink, black, and white. The following are full-page maps: "The World, showing Possessions of Nations" [color-coded map showing which territories are controlled by which countries] and "Italy" [upper-right area is blank which may be a misprint]. The following are two-page maps: "Europe" [color-coded to show "Principal Fortifications and Military Centers"], "Map of Russia," "Austro-Hungary Monarchy," "Turkey in Europe: Bulgaria, Romania, Servia and Montenegro" [includes a note: "Red Lines show present divisions of Balkan States; Uncolored portion shows former Turkish territory"], "France and Monaco" [includes inset map of Corsica], and "Map of Germany" [includes color-coded legend of its states]. The following are smaller maps that fit four to a page: "Netherlands, Belgium and Luxemburg," " Greece," "Switzerland and Liechtenstein," and "Spain and Portugal," "England and Wales," "Sweden and Norway," "Ireland," and "Scotland." The front cover shows portraits of Wilhelm II of Germany, Franz Joseph of Austria-Hungary, Peter I of Serbia, Nicholas II of Russia, George V of Great Britain, Ferdinand I of Bulgaria, Victor Emmanuel III of Italy, Constantine I of Greece, Albert I of Belgium, and Raymond Poincare of France. George F. Cram (1842-1928) was an American map publisher. Cram joined his uncle's map business in 1867 and became its sole proprietor two years later.
