This map is from Asher & Adams" "New Statistical and Topographical Atlas of the World." This atlas is unique in its vivid hand coloring and easy to read town names. Asher & Adams had this to say in their forward: "The erroneous method of crowding and burdening maps with a vast amount of names, blurring the page and obscuring the places they should bring to view" has been discarded in this work." This map of Minnesota pays particular attention to railroads, railroad stations, rivers, and numerous cities and towns. This map measures 16 inches by 22.25. N° de ref. del artículo 38629

Condición: Very Good. "This wonderful map of Minnesota and western Wisconsin was published in Washington, D.C. by the firm of Asher & Adams in 1873. It was included as part of their New Commercial, Topographical, and Statistical Atlas and Gazetteer of the United States, "one of the first United States atlases to exclusively feature railroad lines, showing minimal topography (in this later edition more topographical features are added, earlier editions have fewer features shown ) and only showing towns on or next to the railroads lines.'' [Rumsey] This is not entirely true - as a handful of 'off the track' settlements are depicted, in addition to post offices, roads, and geographic features. The image presents counties colored by hand in soft pastels. Expansive counties, mostly unsurveyed, in the northern reaches of the state reflect a lack of development and represent on of the remaining American frontiers at the time of publication. Source." Sheet Width (in) 17.4 Sheet Height (in) 23.9 Condition Description Moderate toning around the outer edges and the paper has brittled from age. As a result, numerous tears around the outer edges, some of which just enter the border, have been repaired on the verso with archival tape. Some light discoloration along the horizontal centerfold.
