Descripción

Card Covers. G+/None. 1st. 21cm By 14cm. Produced as an official 50th anniversary history of the formation of Te Aroha as a established entity as a goldfield in 1880, this study extends back to the earlier days of Euroipean settlement in the mid-1800s. At publication the town and district was dependent almost exclusively on agriculture but this history also covers its goldmining days, local government, geology, botany, biologfy, social services, transport, education, commerce, civic and community services as well as numerous other topics. Even so, the editor found it necessary to apologise for material omitted. A comprehensive study of the growth of a typical NZ small town and its district. 351 pages, b/w photos throughout, some advertising in last 100 pages, some tables. The front cover of this copy had been lost, it is replaced with a colour card photo copy which closely matches the tones of the back cover. The replacement has narrow white marginal strips lower and vertical edges, small section spine missing at top. Text block excellent apart from few dog-eared pages lower corner at front. A rare item.
