This book has no title page and hence almost no publication-related information. It is even possible (but not certain) that it has been re-bound as the majority of it is printed on laid paper. However, the paste downs and endpapers consist of a different quality of paper. We assume the book was published in the second half of the seventeenth century - given an ink inscription on one of the front endpapers: Margaret Hughes, Oct 25th, 1781 (see image but perhaps also refer to Matthew 24:36). Contents (in order from the beginning): Esdras I & II, Tobit, Judith, Esther, The Wisdom of Solomon, Ecclesiasticus, Baruch, Song of the Three Children, History of Susanna, Bel and the Dragon, the Prayer of Mansses, King of Juda, the Book of Maccabees (I & II). Condition (external): the half leather boards are in a sound condition with a little fraying in a couple of the marbled sections; plus one of the leather corner sections is also rubbed - see main image. Spine with gilt (gold) title and raised bands is in a sound state. Tight binding. Condition (internal): the main condition-related aspect is the consistent level of tanning with occasional spotting. This is much more apparent on the preliminary and final pages than elsewhere in the book. The text which is arranged in two columns per page remains largely clear and clean. There is also an ink signature dated 1840 on the front pastedown. In addition, there are two rather nice family photos (loose); one of which is dated 1944, Cambridge. More information/photos available on request. Please note that, depending on destination, we may request a payment to cover any extra shipping/postage charges. Proceeds to Amnesty International.
