One of 1250 copies of a special limited edition SIGNED by the author. A classic of American autobiography, Bok's memoir won the Pulitzer Prize in 1920. Laid in is a card with a holograph sentiment that appears to be in Bok's hand, but is unsigned. (The card reads: "It was certainly the Golden Age of Literature when one writer (Julia Ward Howe) could turn her pen into a sword and another -- (Col. Wentworth Higginson) could turn his sword into a pen.") Bookplate and small remnant of a news clipping to endpapers, else very good in cloth-backed boards, spine label well preserved.
