First Edition. Bound in illustrated dark beige paper covered boards with 1/4 black cloth spine. Richly illustrated text with numerous photo plates of stars of the American stage as of 1910 -- several of whom went on to star in silent films, including Ethel Barrymore, Billie Burke, George M. Cohan, Douglas Fairbanks, George Arliss, Maclyn Arbuckle, John Barrymore, May Robson, and others. P F Collier & Son, NY, 1910. Very Good. Some rubbing to boards. Front board is slightly weak otherwise the binding is tight. Pages are clean. Ex-library; only markings are a bookplate on front pastedown and single inkstamps on the front and back pastedowns, respectively, both for The Masonic Temple Library Board of St. Louis. No Jacket. Folio, about 11 by 14 inches, with some 200 or so unnumbered pages. William Winter (1837 - 1917) was an American theater critic, biographer, poet, essayist. He is known for his Romantic-style poetry, and for his long career as an editor and writer for some of New York City's great papers. Winter was a tour de force in the original Bohemian scene of Greenwich Village, going on to become one of the most influential men of letters of the last half of the 19th century and the preeminent drama critic and biographer of the times. Winter was at the heart of the influential circle known as The Pfaffian's who gathered weekly at the Vault at Pfaff's Beer Hall on Broadway and Bleeker. Size: Folio. N° de ref. de la librería 000701
