An American Chronology: The Photographs of David Plowden. Text by David McCullough.
Wide small 4to. Blue cloth, pictorial dust jacket. 160pp. Numerous illustrations. Near fine/very good. Mild jacket edgewear. A tight and attractive first edition -- with a twist: from the library of noted Chicago photographer ARCHIE LIEBERMAN (1926-2008) of "Farm Boy" fame. Lieberman apparently reviewed Plowden's book -- or apparently was asked, wrote a harsh review and declined to have it published ("I really would not like to do a review. It would serve no purpose for me or for Plowden."). But present are various drafts of Lieberman's review -- some handwritten, others typewritten -- and all uniformly critical. Needless to say, it's most interesting and unusual to have a noted photog's copy of a colleague's book together with uncensored (and possibly unpublished) review of that same book.
