Sinopsis: This book is about two great personalities of Pakistan, Allama Mashriqi and Dr. Akhtar Hameed Khan.

Allama Mashriqi was an eminent mathematician and scientist and a renowned scholar who broke records at Punjab and Cambridge Universities. At Cambridge University(U.K), he passed four Tripos exams with distinction in five years. Allama Mashriqi was also a great writer and a poet. He authored many books, and his monumental work, Tazkirah (a commentary on the Holy Quran), was nominated for the Nobel Prize. He was one of the founding fathers of Pakistan and the founder of the Khaksar Movement; he played a vital role in the independence of Indo-Pakistan. The first part of this book discusses Allama Mashriqi and his Khaksar Movement (Khaksar Tehrik). This book is an eye opener, as Mashriqi’s grandson reveals facts from Pakistan’s history that are unknown to many.

The second part of the book is about Dr. Akhtar Hameed Khan. Dr. Khan was a scholar, a world renowned social scientist, and the founding father of the Pakistan Academy for Rural Development and the Orangi Pilot Project. His projects acclaimed global recognition and are benefiting millions of poor people around the world. He was also a recipient of many prestigious Civil Awards. Dr. Khan was a visiting Professor at Harvard University, Princeton University, Michigan State University, Oxford University, and Lund University. He was part of the prestigious Indian Civil Service (I.C.S.). He wrote extensively on community and rural development.

Mashriqi and Dr. Khan were closely related. Both men’s services to Pakistan are unprecedented as they successfully mobilized the masses for their causes: Mashriqi for freedom and Dr. Khan for poverty alleviation. Mashriqi’s followers were in millions while Dr. Khan’s projects are benefiting millions.

From the Author: It gives me immense gratification and honor to be writing about two legends of a lifetime. I am, indeed, honored to be closely related to these renowned and well-acclaimed personalities of Pakistan. First, I had thought that I would write two separate books on each of these personalities, but I realized that a vast majority of people are not aware of the fact that the two were closely related. My knowledge of these two stalwarts does not come merely from the members of the family but also from non-family members and other sources. There is a lot of curiosity and interest about these personalities amongst the public. There is also a need on the part of researchers, scholars, historians, students, educationists, etc., for this kind of a book, particularly from a member of the family.

I believe it is worthwhile to share my knowledge with the nation. Before writing this book, I undertook extensive research using a large number of books, journals, and many newspapers of the time. I have reviewed papers from virtually every date spanning from 1939 through 1963. It has taken me seven years (of long hours) to produce this book. The newspapers used during research are non-Khaksar and I have cited the information and quotations from these papers, where possible, so that my study is not considered biased.
