Aromanians have played a major role in the history of almost all modern Balkan states. A growing movement in these countries, especially Romania, calls to recognize the Aromanians either as a separate cultural group or as a separate ethnic group, and extend to them the rights of other minorities. ~ Vasile Alexandrescu Urechia (1834-1901), Romanian historian, author, academic and politician, a noted ethnographer and folklorist. Was Romania's Education Minister. In 1880, he was elected president of the Macedo-Romanian Cultural Society. His "Albumul Macedo-Român" was placed by art historian Gheorghe Oprescu among "the most beautiful and elegant turn-of-the-century Romanian books".
