Descripción

The Aircraft Picture-Book was published by Ward, Lock & Co., Limited, in, or pretty shortly before, 1940. Not an ex-library copy, this 7 1/4" X 9 1/2", 93-page, truly beautiful offering is in G+ condition. For the life of me, I could not find the year of publication anywhere, but I'm still reasonably certain that this is, indeed, a First Edition. Its pages have yellowed modestly, over its some 70 years of existence, there is some modest shelf wear seen at top and bottom edges of volume's spine as well as at two outer tips of front cover board(also, a small, triangle-shaped piece of cover surface is missing from both of said outer tips), and there is a brief Christmas gift message, dated 1940, on upper-half portion of front loose end page. There is, too, a sequence of perhaps 8-10 pages, located in last quarter of body of text, that have modestly crinkled/bent outer-top corners, which I have "straightened"/smoothed out as best I could. The highly informative, factually sound textual portion of this vintage offering is told in storybook fashion by a father to his two, attentive children, Dennis and Pat. THE TRUE STARS OF THIS VOLUME are, of course, the myriad pictures of the many, many aircraft explained and discussed by "Father", as his discourse weaves and bobs throughout the pages. Photographs, some of which are of a tinted brown, are courtesy of such entities as Photopress, Air France, Imperial Airways, Ltd., Associated Press, Vickers, Ltd., and Fox Photo, among many others. Some of the artists who contributed full-page, full-color Drawings of many of the classic airships presented include Francie E. Hiley, Franklin Mason, R.S. Ashby, G.H. Davis, and Geoffrey Watson. Just some of the aircraft described and pictured include the Graf Zeppelin, Southamptons, Vickers Supermarine Rolls-Royce S.6.B., Dutch liners, Vickers Vellox, and flying boats. The Title Page announces a total of "24 Color Plates and over 70 Illustrations" to be found within the pages of this book. Simply one of those really neat books to sit down and marvel at as you make your way through same. Thank you!!. N° de ref. de la librería 005159
