HEAVY.192 pages, illustrated throughout with b/w photos, index. Name and place by the upper edge of the front flyleaf. Seven lines in Hungarian beneath the title on the title page. There are a few further marginal notes and paragraph marks. Cloth boards in dust-jacket. The Aichi D3A1/2 Val was designed to specification 11-Shi in 1936 as a replacement for the Aichi D21A2 biplane. Production began in December 1939 and the new aeroplane was soon in service, in operations against the Chinese mainland during September 1940. On 7 December 1941 VAls led the dive-bombing attacks on Hickham Field, Ford Island and the anchored fleet in Pearl Harbor, bringing the United States into the war. Throughout the rest of the war the Val was the principal dive bomber of the Japanese fleet. The book includes the attack on Port Darwin in 1942, the Battles of the Coral Sea and Midway, Guadalcanal, New Guinea 1942-44, and the Battle of the Philippine Sea. Size: 4to. Acerca de

Book by Smith Peter C

Reseña del editor:

The Aichi Val was the principal dive bomber for the Japanese fleet, scoring considerable successes against American and British warships. From the attack on Pearl Harbour to the Kamikaze raids in the closing stages of the war, it was a potent weapon. Using official records and the testimony of the men that designed and flew the Val, Peter Smith has assembled this work, which should appeal to both historians and modellers.
