Título: Abraham Lincoln Print (unsigned) / Typed ...
Ejemplar firmado: Signed by Author(s)
This Dayton, Ohio commercial artist became the foremost artist interpreter of Abraham Lincoln and his circle, illustrating every facet of Lincoln's life in various media over several decades; he authored and/or illustrated several Lincoln books, such as the 1963 classic "Lincoln in Photographs: An Album of Every Known Pose" (with Charles Hamilton). Unsigned print, 11½" X 14½", n.p., n.y. Fine. Pristine ink-and-wash black-and-white print, an unusual waist-up closeup of young Lincoln in winter garb in the foreground looking down at envelopes he's sorting in his hands, while behind him appears the snow-covered "U.S. Post Office" of New Salem. Accompanied by a nice Typed Letter Signed from Ostendorf, 1p, 8½" X 11", Dayton,m OH, 1971 December 19. Addressed to noted Lincoln/Civil War scholar Arnold F. Gates (1914-93). Near fine. On pictorial "Lincoln Picture Studio" letterhead, Ostendorf discusses at length a recent Lincoln illustration project. In part: "The 'Ostendorf Originals' are ink and wash paintings similar to the LINCOLN HERALD'S cover art, made for the civic minded, the historians, merchants and institutions who want to help promote the history of Logan County by acquiring the original art for their businesses or institutions and have reproductions made of the original art to give to Lincoln land tourists. A icture map of Logan County was also created for use as place-settings or tour guides of points of interest relating to Lincoln and Logan County. I have been doing similar work for Civil War buffs, ink and wash illustrations for their favorite War hero, relative in the war, Lincoln in some special scene, and any custom piece of art for individuals who want an Ostendorf Original in their collection, art priced from $50. to $100." Signed simply "Lloyd" in black ink. N° de ref. de la librería 37520
