Descripción

2002 new copy, hard bound in dust jacket, 8 1/2 x 11, 340 pages, prof illustrated with B&W photos and situation maps, . edited by Antonio Munoz. After extensive source study, Mark W. A. Axworthy has produced what many consider the definitive study on the history of the puppet Slovak state which was created, supported, and sustained by the Third Reich from 1938 until 1945. Mr. Axworthy has carefully compiled the military history of the Slovak State- complete with the political, economic, social, and personal reasons why things occurred as they did. Through hundreds of period photographs, tables, charts, me drawings an color uniform plates, this military study is carefully woven into a seamless and perfect tapestry- accurately depicting a little known aspect of the Second World War - Slovakia's participation on the side of the Axis forces. A partnership with Nazi Germany which was intended to cause a "Slavic wedge" between the Allies and the Slavic countries of Europe. Germany's dictator, Adolf Hitler, carefully nurtured this idea of a Slavic wedge and Father Josef Tito's small regime was but a tool of the Germans, meant to facilitate the Third Reich's conquest of other Slavic states. Hitler gave Slovakia little real independence, although the little central European state did its best to act autonomously. Slovakia's Armed Forces took part in. the invasion of Poland, and briefly fought the Hungarians before participating in their largest and most dangerous endeavor- the invasion of the Soviet Union. The Slovak contribution in Russia included several divisions (one of them motorized) and lasted from 1941 - 1943. In 1944 a part of the Slovak Army rebelled against the Nazis and their uprising lasted from the end of August until late October 1944. In effect, this work covers the military and political history of the Slovak state quite thoroughly. It is, we believe, the most complete study on the subject. N° de ref. de la librería 28782
