Título: AUTOGRAPH LETTER
to "Dear Sir", dd. Oct. 18th 1859, concerning portrait of MARY STUART at Greystoke Castle ".Segur had it up some years ago to put right & he and the learned at that time pronounced it decidedly not Mary.It proved on comparison with all the evidence I was able to carry to Greystoke in July to be undoubtedly Mary by a french hand of the highest class, at about 13 years old.It must be remembered that from connexion with the Norfolk & Arundel families, Greystoke was a place where we had every reason to expect a good Mary", goes on to talk of other portraits of Mary & adds that a "charming picture of Mr. Harvard must rank very high as the portrait as Dauphin, or rather even prior to her Nuptials with Francis II", Further adds of a fresh point of investigation ".I suspect the drawing & Hampton Court portrait , all called Janet, representing Mary as supposed, in the Devil blanc for Francis II, may be Mary of Guise & I sadly want an undoubted portrait of that queen.but she seems to elude our search.". 8vo. 4 sides. Albert Way, 1805-1874. Antiquary, founder of Archaelogical Institute in 1845. N° de ref. de la librería 12060
