Título: FROM AN ANTIQUE LAND
Editorial: London: Max Parrish & Co. 1954
Año de publicación: 1954
FIFTH IMPRESSION, 1955. 8vo., pp. 13-303 plus index. Two maps and population chart of the Middle East. Colour frontispiece of the great colonnade at Palmyra and 26 further colour plates. Thirty-nine b/w photographic illustrations. Original blue cloth, sound/good. Interior clean. Dust jacket a little worn and frayed at edges, but in general sound. Early in the introduction to his book, Julian Huxley says that, "Before he knows what is happening, the traveller in the Middle East finds himself travelling in time as well as space, between epoch and epoch as well as between country and country." And so this books not only takes the reader on a tour of some dozen countries and regions in the middle east visited by Julian Huxley during 1948, but puts the places into their historical context. The mixture of contemporary observation and appreciation of the Middle East as "solid history", makes this an informative and entertaining read. N° de ref. de la librería 10345

Descripción de la librería: We specialise in travel, adventure and exploration books published between about 1900 and 1960, loosely referred to as post-imperialist travel writing. Although most books are the first-hand experiences of their authors, we have included books of general interest about a particular area or incident and autobiographies and biographies by and of famous travellers or adventurers. You will also find some books we consider of particular merit outside our somewhat arbitrary date range. Mark Culme-Seymour Proprietor
