This portfolio consists of 12 reproductions of images of Jan Lauschmann, an important Czech photographer who was mainly active in the years between 1920 and 1930. A chemist in profession, Lauschmann always defended "pure photography", a notion owing much to the American school of 'Photosecession' of Alfred Stieglitz, Clarence White and other photographers of the time. He was a faithful supporter of Joseph Ruzicka, another Czech photographer based in the United States, who advocated the exclusive use of natural light against the noble processes that were very fashionable in the 1920s. Lauschmann was one of the pioneers of the Czech avant-garde that opened the way to modern photography.
