This book shows the influence of french architecture on Buenos Aires city in all its splendour. Special attention is given to the residencies built at the beginning of the XX Century in an area that stretches from Retiro to Recoleta neighbourhoods, culminating at Plaza Carlos Pellegrini (Carlos Pellegrini Park). The predominant style in Buenos Aires, French Classicism from the XVII and XVIII Centuries gave it the nickname of South American Paris .
Xavier Verstraeten s photographs take us to a tour around old residences that have been preserved. Most of them have been turned into magnificent embassy buildings. Fabio Grementieri is an architect specialized in Buenos Aires city belle epoque, when such authentic palaces and charming petit hotels were built. The book also displays all the luxury of their interiors, where we can observe the predilection for French decoration of the time.
Great Houses of Buenos Aires exhibits the spectacular influence of French architecture on the River Plate area and, at the same time, it accounts for a sumptuous lifestyle belonging to past times of Argentina.
