Arthur Stringer was born on February 26, 1874, in Chatham-Kent to parents Sarah Mary Delmage and Hugh Stringer. He became known as a novelist, screenwriter, and poet, contributing significantly to both Canadian and American literature. After completing his education at the University of Toronto, he embarked on a prolific writing career that included publishing 45 works of fiction and 15 additional books. Beyond his novels and poetry, he also wrote film scripts and numerous articles, expanding his creative reach into various literary and cinematic forms. Stringer moved to the United States, where he continued his writing endeavors and gained recognition for his work in early Hollywood. In 1900, he married actress Jobyna Howland, and their marriage lasted until 1914. Together they had three children: Hugh Arbuthnott Stringer, Robert Arthur Stringer, and Arthur John Arbuthnott Stringer. His writings often explored crime, adventure, and human conflict, blending elements of mystery and romance. He passed away on September 13, 1950, in Mountain Lakes, New Jersey, at the age of 76, leaving behind a diverse and impactful literary legacy.
