Sinopsis
Roofs form the fifth skin of buildings and define the character of the architecture. Their main function is sometimes to provide protection against the sun and wind, and sometimes to channel, collect and store rainwater. With this in mind, this book presents a complete and up-to-date study of the different types of roof, the materials used and their auxiliary elements. It includes designs by both recognised and emerging architects, with plans and technical details.

Both established and bold new architects use innovative roofs as a means of expression and function of the structure of buildings. Far from being limited to providing protection from the weather, roofs are open to many interpretations such as acting as a filter for light. Like a fifth skin, they are conjugated even with facades to form an unusual binomial. In this work, architects and builders experiment with many materials and work with the traditional alternative of flat and sloping roofs. Each project is illustrated with photographs, plans and construction details.
