Ms. Berit Liland (born in Bergen, Norway, in 1943) is a former Radio Telegraphy Officer with the Norwegian Merchant Navy, who later followed a maritime career ashore. Retired, she travelled as a passenger with the Hurtigruten ships several times and was impressed by the mountains and fjords of the coast, but felt that there was much more to be learned about what she could see from the ship. After retirement, she spent four years gathering current and historical information about the nature, culture, history and legends of the Hurtigruten journey, and has since found a large audience in former, current and future Hurtigruten travellers, as well as those interested in the coastal culture of Norway and western Scandinavia. Ms. Liland has also published the Hurtigruten book in Norwegian and German language. The English edition is translated by Mr. Andy Lomax, who resides in Troms, Norway, and by Mr. Øyvind Martinsen.
