Gustav Vigeland (1869-1943 has been characterized as the most controversial schulpter of modern times. Yet all of his work belongs within the humanistic tradition in art. From the beginning to end he has been oreoccupied with man at all stages of his life and in his most fundamental relationships as they exist everywhere and at all times. His art is both subjective and universal.
