From the reviews: "Drs Alain Couture and Corinne Veyrac have been pioneers and experts in brain imaging with ultrasonography (US) since its initial development in the 1970s. In this book, they discuss and illustrate the applications of transfontanellar Doppler and color Doppler US in the evaluation of the newborn and fetal brain. a ] The authors are to be complimented for their original and extensively reviewed work. a ] it deserves its place in the library of pediatric radiologists and other specialists interested in neonatal brain imaging." (Maria Ines Boechat, Radiology, November, 2002) "This book describes in detail the role of transfontanellar pulsed and colour Doppler imaging in the fetus and neonate. a ] a highly detailed overview is given of the normal anatomy of cerebral arteries and veins. a ] The authors successfully link physiopathogenic phenomena with the clinical context and haemodynamic US findings. Their experience is extensively discussed with data from the literature and recommendations are given to avoid misinterpretation. This splendid book is a must for all with a special interest in perinatal cerebral disease." (M. Smet, European Radiology, Vol. 12 (10), 2002) "It was a pleasure to review this excellent book on neonatal cranial ultrasound. I am sure it will become an invaluable reference for paediatric radiologists, general radiologists who perform paediatric scans and neonatologists. There is an excellent introductory chapter on the normal neonatal brain, with very detailed anatomical drawings a ] . All chapters comprise excellent reviews with useful practical tips and detailed critical review of the literature. a ] this is a superb book whichshould form a core text for all departments performing neonatal ultrasound." (Dr. K. Entwisle, RAD Magazine, January, 2002)Reseña del editor:
This book examines in detail the role of transfontanellar pulsed and color Doppler imaging in the fetus and neonate. After an introductory chapter on the technical aspects of Doppler ultrasonography, its use in the normal neonate is considered. Results of the hemodynamic evaluation of 491 newborns aged from 32 weeks of gestation to 9 months by means of pulsed and color Doppler are reported. Normal values of the resistive index as determined by this technique are documented, and systolic, diastolic, and mean velocities in seven different vessels are presented. It is concluded that Doppler ultrasonography enables reliable analysis of arterial and venous velocities. Subsequent chapters examine the use of transfontanellar Doppler imaging in a variety of commonly encountered pathological conditions, including intracranial hemorrhage, hydrocephalus, hypoxic-ischemic brain damage, pericerebral collections, sinus thrombosis, intacranial infections and brain malformations.
