Grading and Learning challenges our ideas about grades and provides specific strategies for changing the present, outdated system of grading students. Sue Brookhart says two important things about grading: It s not about grading. It s about the learning and If you have to do it, you might as well do it well. What makes her book so valuable is that she then shows in practical ways how teachers can make school about learning, not grading. She does this by providing twelve strategies that teachers should use to make grading and reporting accurately reflect student achievement. --Ken O Connor, Independent Consultant, Scarborough, Ontario, Canada
