I fi st had a chance to work with Steve Scott at a National Team training camp at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs when I was 15 years old. His coaching and training methods were cutting edge then, and his expertise and knowledge of judo has continued to evolve through the years. Steve was the first coach to expose me to plyometric training and a specified weight and conditioning program for judo. Every serious competitor or practitioner will benefit from this book! --Jimmy Pedro, U.S. Olympic Judo Team Coach
The sign of a true expert is the respect he receives from the martial arts community. I ve known Steve Scott since my competition days. Whenever I, or my teammates, faced an athlete from Welcome Mat Judo Club we just knew it was going to be a tougher match than usual because Steve s athletes were always in shape and always well-trained. Now, as coaches, everyone still has the same reaction. We tell our athletes, I know the coach from that club. It isn t going to be an easy match and that player isn t going to make many mistakes. You d better be on your game to win this one. What Steve has always engendered, in athletes and coaches, is not fear, but respect. His knowledge of physical conditioning, his technical skill and his coaching ability have developed an entire generation of players. Steve develops athletes who are smart but not arrogant, strong but not mean. We need more like him. --AnnMaria Demars, World Judo Champion
I am so excited about this book because it covers a number of bases that could only be covered by reading several books. I especially like the functional perspective on judo from the eyes of the coach. Having coached judo for over 50 years and being a member of the National Coaching Staff for 10 years, I realize the need for this kind of book as a tool for every coach to produce top-level athletes. --Bob Corwin, U.S. Team Coach, World (Under 21) Judo Championships
