Following on from the best-selling Jazz Method for Clarinet, "Developing Jazz Technique for Clarinet" will help the intermediate player take their jazz skills to a new level. The pieces are written in a variety of styles, including blues, swing, New Orleans, ragtime, jazz waltz, bossa nova, samba, salsa, calypso, reggae and South African. Particular emphasis is given to helping the student improvise over chord sequences, such as the II-V-I progression. Idiomatic effects like vibrato, subtone, glissandi and ŽbendingŽ notes are dealt with, and there is a special chapter on overtones. Several new scales are introduced, including the whole tone and diminished scales, and a section dedicated to patterns contains many ideas of practising in all twelve keys. A superb rhythm section provides backing for all the pieces and exercises on the accompanying CD. Content - Ear-training -Phrasing and articulation - Improvising with modes and scales - Vibrato - Improvising on simple harmonic forms - J. S. Bach as a model for development of the melodic line - Special effects - More special effects - II-V-I in major and minor - More on the blues; transposition and melodic displacement - Diminished scales - Whole tone scales - 2/4 time: Ragtime and Samba - The blues part III and ŽRhythm ChangesŽ - Major scale patterns - Minor scale patterns - Pentatonic scales - Neighbour notes - A basic repertoire of tunes - Bibliography -Discography - Table of chord symbols - Table of modes - Trill fingerings - Notes - Chord progression for tunes (insert)

Reseña del editor:

(Schott). Following on from the best-selling Jazz Method for Clarinet (49003197), "Developing Jazz Technique for Clarinet" will help the intermediate player take their jazz skills to a new level. The pieces are written in a variety of styles, including blues, swing, New Orleans, ragtime, jazz waltz, bossa nova, samba, salsa, calypso, reggae and South African. The accompaniment CD includes a rhythm section. "From the beginning of this course, O'Neill stresses the importance of ear-training, singing and transcription of melodies and jazz solos, and notes that even a good book, which his is, has limitations. This book contains 22 tunes in many different styles, which are demonstrated on the accompanying CD by clarinetist Mark Crooks, whose warm tone is representative of an ideal jazz clarinet tone, and a rhythm section comprised of guitar, bass and drums...Aspects of jazz style, such as phrasing, articulation, subtone, vibrato, growling, bending and scooping, are clearly articulated and demonstrated.... Developing Jazz Technique for Clarinet is organized, well thought-out and accessible for aspiring jazz clarinetists young and old."-- The Clarinet magazine
