What can we learn about social work - and what is its importance - when viewed from a pan-European perspective? Authors from eight European countries look at their own experiences and set them in the context of what they have learn from making comparisons. Their work will help European social workers to learn from the strengths and weaknesses of others. It will also encourage them to respond together to the challenge of an economic Europe and the issues that surround a social Europe. It suggests that the development of common standards can allow workers to deal with people everywhere in the same manner -respectfully and by promoting empowerment - and thereby give them the opportunity for a good life.
