Descripción Osprey Publishing Ltd, London, 1992. Hard Cover. Estado de conservación: Very Good. Estado de la sobrecubierta: Very Good. First Edition. This is from the dustwrapper: ' ENDURANCE RACING 1982-1991-In years to come, the 1980s may well be adjudged the golden era of prototype sports car racing: a bold claim, but one based upon the unifying effect of FISA's 1982 Group C fuel regulations upon the then fractured and uncertain sports car racing scene. The new rules would appeal to all those with a vested interest: the entrants, the manufacturers, the sponsors - and the public. From 1982 right through to 1989, Group C could legitimately claim to have provided the arena for some of the greatest races in the history of any category of motor sport. This was in spite of having at the same time excluded John Bishop's North American IMSA championship. During those years, IMSA went its own way - and thrived - using a completely separate, though similar, set of performance-based rules. As the decade neared its end, FISA became progressively more involved in the direct administration and control of Group C. In an attempt to transform sports car racing into a more media-attractive proposition, FISA changed a stock- block engine, endurance class - with opportunities for private entries to run competitively - into a 'sprint' class, which required the use of hi-tech, high-cost chassis and racing engines; beyond the means of the 'privateers'. Small-scale sponsors were forced out, the paying public alienated, and the media (notably television) took even less interest than before. By 1991, the World Championship was on its knees, sporting fields of less than 20 cars in some of the most tediously processional (and short) sports car races ever seen. Ian Briggs traces the origins of Group C back to the first years of what can be called 'modern' sports car racing, with the arrival of the Ford GT4Os and i-cars at Le Mans, the growth of Porsche as a major force in the premier categories, and the development of the Automobile Club de I'Ouest's Le Mans GTP regulations. Yearly summaries of both Group C and IMSA regulations, and annual reviews of the FIA and IMSA championships are linked to summarised reports and results for every World Championship Group C race between 1982 and 1990 - and of course, each running of the Le Mans 24 hours. Also included are results for every IMSA race during the same period. The new 1991 750 kilogram Group C regulations and results of that year's FIA SWC championship are provided. The comprehensive alphabetical directory of the history of individual Group C and IMSA sports prototype marques deals with the major makes - Porsche, Jaguar, Ford, Lancia etc - also the more obscure and brief manifestations such as Lotec, Stehmo, ROC-Chevron, lsola, Simpson and Nykjaer; where possible with full technical specifications. Throughout this book, the author makes extensive reference to the provenance of the individual cars by the use of chassis numbers, where known. More than 400 previously unpublished photographs complement the meticulously researched text. Ian Briggs first went to a race meeting back in the early 1950s: Brands Hatch, when the Kent circuit was little more than a tarmac loop on a hillside and still being used the 'wrong' way round. That childhood experience would prove to be the beginning of a lifelong passion and when it comes to Le Mans, practically an obsession. This book is the fruit of 10 years' attendance at prototype sports car races armed with notebook and camera. Ian Briggs is a freelance writer and photographer, contributing to magazines such as Motor Sport. He is co-author of The Cat Pounces, the story of the TWR Jaguar le Mans win in 1988.'. Hardcover, red boards with silver lettered spine in photo illustrated dustwrapper. viii, 9 - 400 pages, well illustrated. 8 X 11 inches. Very good book in a very good dustwrapper, slight rubbing to corners, light edge wear. Price intact, very clean and unmarked with no ins criptions. Nº de ref. de la librería 006579
