Acerca del autor

Andy C Highfield has worked with tortoises and turtles for almost 30 years and co-founded the Tortoise Trust with the late Jill Martin in 1984. He subsequently published the highly influential Keeping & Breeding Tortoises in Captivity in 1990 and went on to write the Tortoise Trust Guide to Tortoises and Turtles in 1994 and the Practical Encyclopaedia of Keeping and Breeding Tortoises and Freshwater Turtles in 1996. He has published numerous scientific papers, has contributed to most of the major reptile-keeping magazines both as author and photographer, has lectured all over the world on tortoise conservation and captive management, acted as consultant on numerous media projects and developed the world s first online course in chelonian husbandry. He continues to act as director of the Tortoise Trust and is also chairman of the Jill Martin Fund for Tortoise Welfare and Conservation. He is widely acknowledged as one of the world s foremost authorities on the conservation and captive propagation of tortoises and turtles. Nadine Highfield was raised around turtles in New Jersey and Rhode Island and this led to her developing a lifelong interest in their conservation, rescue and rehabilitation. She has published many articles on their care, and currently is in charge of rehabilitating critically ill rescues at the Tortoise Trust in the UK. She has also acted as a technical consultant and editor on various reference texts and has advised major companies on the conservation and welfare impacts of tortoise and turtle imagery in television advertising and media campaigns. She is especially interested in educating young people about responsible pet care and welfare issues. She is also a skilled natural history photographer.
