Gareth L. Powell was born in Bristol, England. In 2007, his short story 'Ack-Ack Macaque' won the Interzone Readers' Poll for best short story of the year and the novel of the same name that was based on the story was published by Solaris in January 2013 to great acclaim and co-winning the British Science Ficiton Award for Best Novel, with the first sequel, Hive Monkey, following a year later. Gareth lives in the English West Country with his wife and two daughters.
