A Rock Star Passes the Torch
In ROCK STAR 101, Rock Star Marc Ferrari Helps Fellow Musicians on the Road to Success
A contract with a major record label, concerts in front of sold-out stadiums . . . many bands imagine the big breakthrough to be the end of a long struggle. Yet in reality, that’s when the challenge really starts, says Marc Ferrari. From hiring professional helpers and managing a growing payroll to responding to media inquiries, the business responsibilities of the group suddenly grow at frightening speed. Marc Ferrari knows, because he has been a rock star himself. In ROCK STAR 101, the former Keel guitarist prepares musicians for the raucous road to rock stardom.
ROCK STAR 101 is the first career compass for future rock icons written by someone who has "been there, done it." Inspired by bands such as Led Zeppelin, Kiss, and Aerosmith, Ferrari has singlehandedly played his way from his parents’ garage into Madison Square Garden and into the hearts of fans across the world. As the guitarist of the heavy metal bands Keel and Cold Sweat, he has recorded five albums and has played alongside of icons such as Van Halen and Bon Jovi.
A captivating account of rock star life, ROCK STAR 101 is also a highly practical guide to the music business. Ferrari realized the importance of business skills when he left his band and found he still owed money to the record companies. In ROCK STAR 101, he tells fellow musicians how to make sure their talent is financially rewarded and how to apply their creativity to new sources of income. Readers will also learn about the professionals who help a band grow, when it is time to hire them, and how to pick a team that promises optimum efficiency. As Ferrari sums it up, "the key is to find the balance between art and commerce and to surround yourself with a contingent of competent, trustworthy people."About the Author:
