About the Author:

Lynn Roddy Brown began sewing at the age of eight. Two years later she won the Singer regional dressmaking contest and received a sewing machine as her prize. She has now published several popular books on quiltmaking.

Review:

July 2007 This is a 'fat quarter friendly' book, all the quilts are made with scrap strips, measuring 5 inches by 20 inches, with a great emphasis on colour values. The quilts are arranged in skill levels, most are rated easy. The 8 quilts are traditional blocks such as Bow Tie and Spools. There are clear instructions with explanatory diagrams. The author has a sensible system for labelling blocks and thus avoiding mistakes when assembling the quilt. She has original ideas for sandwiching quilts, she tapes a flat button to the table to indicate the centre and fixes cocktail sticks at points along the edge, objects which can be felt through three layers, to get a correct alignment. A colourful book with much good advice. * Patchwork & Quilting * Issue 5, 2007 Scrap quilts are perennial favourites, but are surprisingly difficult to get 'right'. If you've never made a scrap quilt, or have been unhappy with your efforts, then this book provides much valuable information to set you on your way. Covered in the first part of the book are: understanding scrap quilts, collecting fabrics, designing with scrap blocks and basic quiltmaking techniques. All of the 16 quilt projects that follow use scrap strips, three of which can be cut from a fat quarter of fabric - perhaps providing a good excuse to go shopping with a couple of friends so you can swap prints from your purchases! And all are skill rated both for fabric selection and piecing, so you can work your way through from simpler to more challenging projects with confidence. Annie Williams * Popular Patchwork *
