DESCRIPTION: The aims of the first edition of Matrix Structural Analysis were to place proper emphasis on the methods of matrix structural analysis used in practice and to lay the groundwork for more advanced subject matter. This extensively revised Second Edition accounts for changes in practice that have taken place in the intervening twenty years. It incorporates advances in the science and art of analysis that are suitable for application now, and will be of increasing importance in the years ahead. It is written to meet the needs of both the present and the coming generation of structural engineers.
KEY FEATURES
Comprehensive coverage - As in the first edition, the book treats both elementary concepts and relativity advanced material.
Nonlinear frame analysis - An introduction to nonlinear analysis is presented in four chapters: a general introduction, geometric nonlinearity, material nonlinearity, and solution of nonlinear equilibrium equations.
Interactive computer graphics program - Packaged with the text is MASTAN2, a MATLAB based program that provides for graphically interactive structure definition, linear and nonlinear analysis, and display of results.
Examples - The book contains approximately 150 illustrative examples in which all developments of consequence in the text are applied and discussed.

WILLIAM MCGUIRE, Late Professor of Civil Engineering, Emeritus, Cornell University. He was the author of the well-known textbook, Steel Structures. He was a member of the National Academy of Engineering and among his awards were the T.R. Higgins Lectureship of the American Institute of Steel Construction and the Shortridge Hardesty Award of the American Society of Civil Engineers.
RICHARD H. GALLAGHER, PhD, Late President, Clarkson University, was a pioneer in the development of the finite element method. He was the author of the textbook Finite Element Analysis Fundamentals. He was a member of the National Academy of Engineering and the recipient of many awards, among them the ASME Medal, the highest honor of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, and the American Society of Engineering Education's Lamme Medal.
RONALD D. ZIEMIAN, PhD, Professor of Civil Engineering, Bucknell University. He is engaged in the development of structural analysis software and active as a researcher and consulting engineer. He is the editor of the reference book Guide to Stability Design Criteria for Metal Structures. He is the recipient of the American Society of Civil Engineers' premier award, the Norman Medal, for a paper based on the inelastic behavior of steel structures, and he has also received ASCE's Shortridge Hardesty Award.
